§ POSITION

RAW — Real Architectural Works — is the independent practice of Surbhi Patil, an architect and urban designer working between New York and Navi Mumbai.

The work begins with the city. I am interested in projects that hold their site to account — that argue, quietly and at length, with the rules and resources they were given. I draw obsessively. I build sparingly.

Professionally the work has ranged from an eleven-acre urban hospitality project in Nagpur to large-scale residential complexes in Pune, alongside urban design research carried out at Pratt Institute.

§ METHOD

Drawing is the project. Construction is its translation, not its end.
